Michael died as he lived. He was high and while there is speculation as to whether he died of heroin or alcohol overdose, the fact remains that he died and it was directly or indirectly his own doing.

Michael at an early age was using narcotics and drinking heavily. He was a beautiful child and grew into a strikingly handsome man. My father used to say he could charm the pants off a nun. He had this Brad Pitt boyish quality that made women want to take care of him and he used that to his full advantage. How many time did I receive late night calls from a heartbroken girl or woman that he had done wrong. Michael stole and lied like it was the most natural thing in the world. Maybe that is because growing up we did not have very easy. I believe that if our mother had not committed suicide and left us at such an early age maybe things would have been different. Maybe then our father would have not married Penny (Merchet) Nightengale and we would not have been so terribly abused by this insane woman. Michael got the brunt of it. I saw her do dispicable things to him and chip away at what little self esteem he had left. My father would beat him with closed fists and and humiliate him in front of other children. Yes Michael had it hard his whole life. He is the father of two boys and their stories are no different. Drugs, alochol and jail

He was in and out of jail since he was 15 years old and it became harder and harder for him to survive in the real world. I know Michael was sexually abused as a child and that carried into his adult life as he was abused in prison as well. He became a predator and had sexual relations with his 17 year old step-daughter whose uncles (mother's side)subsequently tried to slit his throat one afternoon in Alabama. She delivered his baby a few months later and he had already returned to California. Once back in California he moved to the desert and tried to live in Roseville but got drunk one night beat up his girlfriend and neighbor shot him. We thought he was a gonner but soon learned that he checked himself out of the hospital and was back shooting heroin. He was left with a bullet in his spine but completely able to function and walk. My god he was tough like a cockaroach.
In September 2005 he was released from federal custody and sent back to Long Beach to check into a rehab program for recovery. He made a detour at friends house in LB drank two bottles of Malt Liquor and passed out the bathroom. the police were called and he was taken away in an ambulance. According to hospital records he coded enroute and was taken to a closer hosptal where he was pronounced dead. No track marks were found and tissue samples are inconclusive. The actual cause of death is advanced heart disease and Heroin Overdose.
I say the cause started at birth. He was not wanted and heard that every day of his life. Gone too soon or not gone soon enough? Only Michael can say.
